European Enigmas

This page is dedicated to UK and European variations and unusual ponies.

Baby Starburst=pink w/blue/yellow streak, pants with pink & blue stars & moons.
Baby Splashes = yellow w/pink/blue streak, pants with blue ducks.

Whilst in America there was a set of six Fancy Pants Ponies, in the United Kingdom there were only four, which were combined with two Playtime Baby Brother Ponies. The American Fancy Pants babies were made in Thailand, whilst the UK versions were made in China. This inevitably led to differences between the two sets of ponies. Pictured here are two of the set; the two which show best the variations. The other two, Baby Glider and Baby Dots & Hearts have slight differences in expression and maybe shade of their symbol, but are not as much of a variation as these two.
As can be seen from the picture, both babies have a different colour forelock, wheras there US counterparts did not. Also, Baby Splashes' hair is pink, not purple, and Baby Starburst has pink and blue stars, not yellow and blue. Strangely only the European packaging shows the ponies in their rightful colours - all the comics have Baby Splashes with purple hair and Baby Starburst with no streak.

Bow Tie - blue w/pink hair, pink bows
Applejack - orange w/yellow hair, apples
It is unsure what date these two ponies were officially released. THey were never available on the US market in this form, however in the UK it is important to note that we had BOTH versions of Applejack and Bow Tie here, and while both Bow Ties are equally common, the shy pose Applejack is easier to find than the straight head version - however both are VERY common on the second hand market.
It is possible that they were released in 1985 as a part of the Groom & Style Pony set (in the USA the Year 3 Earthlings) but is more likely they were part of the next issue with Snowflake and Honeycomb. Both are Made in Hong Kong, although there are Italian made versions.

Woosie
Although the packages in the UK for this particular set seem to have featured an aqua Woosie, the only one I have found on the second hand market is this lavender version, which has also appeared in other parts of the UK. It is possible that she was a dutch import, but not much is really known.

Twisty Tail in UK Pose
A club offer in the late 1980s advertised a competition to win one of the six Brush and Grow ponies. In the picture Twisty Tail was shown in the American 'Love Melody' pose, but in actual fact when the ponies were issued in stores she was in the more commonly used 'Posey' mould. She is the rarest of her set and hardest to find in good condition.
<By the way, the flowers are not part of her ^g^>

"Bobbie"
Presumably a mismade Tall Tales, this pony has no name. It was, however, and official Hasbro issue and it's identity remains a mystery.

"No Symbol Sundance"
Although perfect in every other way, Sundance has only a very faint symbol, not really visible unless you look very hard. Her hair is still in curls and there is no smudging around her symbol which suggests it was never there in the first place.

"White Star Milky Way"
I believe this is the version of Milky Way sold in Germany and Austria, although I know that she was also sold here in the UK. She is less common than her silver starred cousin. She is made in Hong Kong and all other features are like the silver star version. She was not to my knowledge available in the USA.

"White Head Bluebelle"
This is one of the most peculiar ponies that I have found - and I know she is not the only one of her kind. Her head is cream <not yellow as has been suggested> and is attached to her body still by Hasbro's original seal. Her eyes are bicoloured. Her hooves read the same as any regular concave foot Bluebelle. She was bought from the USA but I do not know her country of original issue.

Yellow Moondancer
Ok, the non believer concedes defeat LOL...This is a scan of the yellow Moondancer pony, sent me by a good friend of mine, Lady Moondancer...The image of Baby Countalot was also sent to verify Moondancer's colour...so there you have it :)

"White Windy"
The lovely little pony on the left of this scan is my White Windy, the other is there just to show you the difference in colour between them. White Windy is that same colour all over, even in those crucial places like under the mane and in the neck joint, which is generally protected from the sun...White Windy is made in Hong Kong.
There, as promised :)
