1993-4

This was the last year of the first generation of My Little Pony in the UK. After this ponies were no longer available generally in stores and surplus stock was sold off at cheap prices. This was, it seemed, the end of My Little Pony.

The Surprise Newborns were the last ever set of newborn ponies. Issued with a printed on nappy which could be washed off to reveal their symbol, they lived up to their name in some respects. However, an enigma of this set was the fact that Baby Bouncy was manufactured in a new newborn pose, despite the fact that in adverts she was shown in a regular pose and that she would be the only one ever to use it. There is also some confusion as to the symbols of these ponies - they are as follows:
Baby Bouncy (yellow): giraffe , or teddy bear (see second image)
Baby Cuddles (pink): cat (also seen with an elephant symbol)
Baby Snoozy (aqua-green): rabbit

Baby Lollipop: yellow w/red/white streaks, lollipops.
Baby Candy: white w/green/white streaks, humbugs.
Baby Liquorice:pink w/dk.blue/yellow streaks, liquorice allsorts.
The UK answer to the Twice As Fancy Baby Ponies, the Sweetie Babies have become some of the most sought after and expensive UK ponies. Despite their links with the TAF babies, however, they are not true Twice As Fancy Ponies for their symbol stretches all down their legs as well as across their sides and there is no minature repetition of it on the cheek or nose. All are earthlings and were issued only with a hair slide that could be worn by the owner. As with the Surprise Newborns, a new pose was introduced and given to Baby Lollipop.

Baby Splish: orange w/blue/orange streak, seahorse, sand & seaweed.
Baby Splash: green w/red/orange streak, fish, sand & seaweed.
Baby Splosh:dk.pink w/yellow/orange streak; octopus, sand and seaweed.
An odd bunch of ponies, the Seaside Babies all stood in Baby Blossom's pose and had the rather confusing names Splish, Splash and Splosh. Each had holes in their hooves and horseshoe floats so that they could swim, and the orange streak in their hair turned yellow in warm water. They were all bright colours with sea based symbols which ran all the way down their back legs.
Each pony is shown with her correct float.

Baby Sapphire: all blue w/silver tinsel, teardrop pendant
Baby Ruby: pink w/red hair & gold tinsel, ruby ring
Baby Diamond: all white w/silver tinsel, pink brooch
Only the second ever set of Baby Ponies to have tinselled hair, the Jewellery Babies were the equivalent of Baby Princesses. They each came with a ring and charm bracelet which matched their eye colour and Baby Sapphire shared the pose used for Baby Lollipop not long before.
The most common mistake with this set is to call the white baby Baby Pearl, because that was the adult Princess Pony's name. She is actually called Baby Diamond.

Nurse Tenderheart: blue w/yellow hair, injured teddy bear
Nurse Loveheart: pink w/blue hair, injured teddy bear
Nurse Sweetheart: white w/dk.pink hair, injured teddy bear
Undoubtedly the rarest of all the UK ponies, the Nurse Ponies came at the very end of the My Little Pony campaign. Each of them has heat sensitive symbols and tiny holes either side of their mane to attach their nurse's cap. Again one of the Seven Character ponies was used - this time Sweetheart, but instead of her having a coloured streak in her mane she had a different symbol. The correct names for the Nurse Ponies are Nurse Sweetheart, Nurse Tenderheart and Nurse Loveheart, despite the fact that many sources give the misleading claim that Loveheart is *Kindheart* and Tenderheart is *Goodheart*.

Highlights: white w/orange/yellow/cream hair, orange and pink streaks
Ringlets: white w/dk.pink/pink/white hair, pink and blue streaks
Gorgeous long crimped hair, haphazardly streaked bodies, these could only be the Great Hair Ponies. There were only two of them but they had more accessories than any other pony of that time. These included a comb, hair bow and clip.
They were advertised as having the 'Most Hair Ever' and indeed did seem to have plenty in their manes, as it flowed beyond their hooves. However the tails were surprisingly short and only one colour.

The Surprise Twins Pony is an oddity in itself and unsurprisingly a rare find. She is the only pregnant pony and by way of a spring mechanism she 'gives birth' to two tiny twins which I believe are the smallest little ponies ever made. However, the mechanism easily breaks and the twins are easily lost.
The Bed and Crib set, the last UK playset was designed for this pony.
